Luis Anibal Calderon is a dedicated collector and curator of exotic coffee varieties. During our most recent visit to his farm, we were astounded by the number of unique heirlooms, mutations, and hybrid varieties he cultivates. Among his exceptional collection is the remarkable Pink Bourbon. Luis meticulously hand-sorts the cherries before subjecting them to six days in anaerobic tanks. He then floats and hand-sorts the cherries again before drying.
Though Villa Betulia is situated at 1600m, its unique micro-climate keeps the farm cool, aiding in slow fruit maturation and extended fermentations. A third-generation coffee farmer, Luis started his journey on his father's farm at the age of nine. His relentless pursuit of unique coffee varieties has earned him a reputation for pushing the limits of coffee cultivation. He views his collection as an arboretum, continuously seeking new cultivars and achieving remarkable success in growing distinctive and intriguing coffees.
Our partnership with Luis Anibal Calderon opens the door to a new world of extraordinary coffees, each reflecting his passion and dedication to the craft.
